Trains from Mumbai to Goa

Travelling by train from Mumbai to Goa has made the time much lesser that it takes by bus and also its like a adventure. make sure during seasons which is mainly may and December you make a booking atleast one month in advance so that you get reserved seats.

A convenient and inexpensive way of travelling from Mumbai to Goa is by train. It's much more comfortable, fun and faster than the bus. If you take an overnight train, you'll be there the next morning. Most trains take around 12 hours. Here's what you need to know about trains from Mumbai to Goa.

The main railway station in Mumbai is the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus) near the Fort area of south Mumbai. Its code is CST.
Trains to Goa also depart Mumbai from Lokmanyatilak Terminus, which is in Kurla.

The prime railway station in Goa is Madgaon, also known as Margao . It's located in south Goa. If you're traveling to the north Goa beaches, try to get a train that stops at Thivim (THVM).

Mumbai Goa Trains
The most famous train which many prefer from Mumbai to Goa is the 0111 Konkankanya Express. It departs Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at 11.05 p.m. and arrives at Madgaon at 10.45 a.m. It also stops at Pernem and Thivim in north Goa. The fare in 1AC (first class, air conditioned, sleeper) is approx 1,800 rupees it also depends on seasons . 2A (two tier, air conditioned, sleeper) is 1,100 rupees. 3A (three tier, air conditioned, sleeper) is 783 rupees. SL (three tier, non air conditioned, sleeper) is 300 rupees. The train runs every day and also is very cheap

If you don't mind an early start, the 2051 Jan Shatabdi Express from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus to Madgaon is another decent choice. It's a "people's" Shatabdi train though, so don't expect the normal Shatabdi train perks. It departs at 5.10 a.m. and arrives in Madgaon at 2.10 p.m. The train also stops at Thivim in north Goa. The fare in CC (chair car, seated, air conditioned) is 680 rupees. 2S (second class, seated, non air conditioned) is 197 rupees. The train runs every day.
Another more time consuming option, which requires a day of travel, is the 0103 Mandovi Express. It departs Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at 6.55 a.m. and arrives at Madgaon at 6.45 p.m. It also stops at Pernem and Thivim in north Goa. The fares are the same as for the Konkankanya Express, and this train also runs every day.
Note About Travel During the Monsoon Season
A monsoon timetable operates from mid June until the end of October each year. Many trains depart earlier than usual to account for delays as a result of reduced travel speed for safety reasons.

Enjoy travelling by train it is a nice experience as you see the nature and greenery around you the tunnels and waterfalls.

Mostly everyone in Goa can speak in English and Hindi as now it is becoming a place where there are tourist and this is a universal language. there are people of various regions, races and religions from India and abroad settling in Goa, their language too has pitched accrodingly. The various languages which people interact in Goa are English, Portuguese, Konkani, Hindi and Marathi. Konkani, however, is the official language of Goa. Konkani is written in the Devanagri script. The other main languages spoken in the state are Marathi, Kannad and Urdu. Gujarati and Hindi are also spoken by a number of people in the state.

In Big towns, English is used in writing and conversation. Goa being a major tourist spot gives a tourist-friendly way of interaction through English. Portuguese was the language of the colonial rulers and the official language until before liberation, in 1961. Thus just after the departure of the Portuguese, the Portuguese language lost all its favor and usage. Konkani and Marathi survived in Goa by secret studies at home, in temples and public places in villages.

Anyways you can speak in any language as long as the person you are communicating to understands to and be ready for a warm welcome in Goa even if you do not know any as the best language cab be the sign language

Goan Food and Drinks

The Goan culture is rooted, among other things, in enjoyment of tastey food and drink. One can never forget the taste of his mothers yummy sorpotel and the aroma of a tempting peg of feni.

Goan cooking involves a perfect amount of spices, too, giving dishes a unique taste and aroma. The mostly used indegrents include cumin, coriander, chilies, garlic and turmeric. And yes to add flavour to the goan fish curry is kokum. and Ofcourse how can one forget of the yummy mouth watering vindaloo and balchao being some of the most famous.

For the main course of the meal, seafood of all varieties is eaten, and pork and chicken are the most commonly used meats. The Portuguese influence in goan cooking cannot be ignored. Dishes such as racheiado, caldeirada and cabidela reflect the legacy of the state's colonial heritage.

Seafood

Goa is famous for its seafood, the 'Goan Dish' being fish curry and rice. With the variety and range on offer, however, combined with the skills of the local cooks, there is a mouthwatering choice. Kingfisher and Bello is probably the most common item, on the menu, but there are many others including pomfret, doumer, shark, tuna and mackerel. Among the excellent shellfish available are crabs, prawns, tiger prawns and lobster.

Various beach shacks and restaurants present seafood lightly spiced, or without spices at all. In this case the food is generally either fried, grilled or cooked in garlic sauce. Traditional Goan cooking methods, however, generally involve seasoning the seafood in some way.

Among the most famous Goan dishes is ambot tik, a slightly sour curry dish which can be prepared with either fish or meat, but more usually fish. Caldeirada is a mildly flavored offering in which fish or prawns are cooked into a kind of stew with vegetables, and often flavored with wine. Racheiado is a delicious preparation in which a whole fish, usually a mackerel or pomfret, is slit down the center and stuffed with a spicy red sauce, after which it is cooked normally. Balchao is a method of cooking either fish or prawns in a dark red and tangy sauce. Because of the preservative qualities of the sauce, balchao can be cooked in advance and reheated upto four days after preparation. Rissois are snacks or starters, which are made from prawns, fried in pastry shells.

Meats
Sorpotel is one of Goa's most famous meat dishes, and is prepared from pork, liver, heart and kidney, all of which are diced and cooked in a thick and very spicy sauce favored with feni. Sorpotel, like balchao, keeps for several days, and is actually considered to taste better if left for three to four days before being reheated. Xacuti is a traditional way of preparing meat, usually chicken, by cooking it in coconut milk, and adding grated coconut and a variety of spices. The result is mild curry, but with a distinctive and delicious flavor.

Chouricos are spicy pork sausages, which owe more than a passing debt to Portuguese culinary traditions. Goan sausages are prepared used well salted and spiced cubes of pork. Once they have been made, the strings of sausages are dried in the sun and then hung above the fire where they are gradually smoked. Traditionally they are eaten during the monsoon, when fish is scarce. In preparation, they are soaked in water and then usually fried and served with a hot sauce and rice.

Cafrial is a method of preparation, usually used with chicken, in which the meat is marinated in a sauce of chilies, garlic and ginger and then dry-fried. The result is rather dry, but spicy dish.

Breads
Bakers regularly do the rounds of each village in Goa, pushing bicycles laden with fresh bread and either rings a bell or hooting a horn on the handlebars to let the villagers know they've arrived. There are several types of local bread. Uned as small round crusty rolls, which are usually served fresh from the bakery, and an ideal alternative to rice when eating, say, a sorpotel. Particularly famous and unique in goa are sanna, which are steamed rolls made with rice flour, ground coconut and coconut toddy, which are ideal to eat with any of the spicy Goan dishes.

Sweets

The most Loved Goa's sweetmeats is bebinca, a wonderful concoction made from layer upon layer of coconut pancakes.

Dodol is also a famous Goan sweet, traditionally eaten at Christmas time, and made with rice flour, coconut milk, jaggery and cashew nuts.

Drinks

Goan drink Feni

There are two types of feni
Coconut or palm feni is made from the sap drawn from the severed shoots on a coconut tree. In Goa this is known as toddy, and the men who collect it are toddy taper's. Toddy tappers at work are common sight; crouched in the canopy of the palm tree, they collect the terra-cotta pot, which has filled with creamy white sap, then trim the shoots to facilitate further collection. Tie a new pot over the top, and descend to move into the next tree. Toddy can be collected year-round, and thus palm feni is in plentiful supply at all times.

Cashew or caju feni, on the other hand, can only be made during the cashew season in late March and early April.

Cheers!!!!!

It is fun and relieves you of pressure tension and reminds you just living life Kingsize. There is enthusiasm and happiness all around and it is a perfect example of all celebrating together keeping differences aside.

What carnival is all about

The word 'carnival' comes from the Latin 'Carne', meaning meat, and 'Vale', which translates to 'good-bye'. Some also link the word to 'Carnislevamen' or 'the pleasures of meat', focusing on the enjoyment of meat during the festivities, before the abstinence that follows during Lent.

Originination Of The Festivity

The Goa Carnival is an integral part of the Portuguese heritage of the state, which was a dominion of Portugal till 1961. The carnival thros light on the fun-loving culture that is characteristic of Goa. It was introduced by the erstwhile rulers as a rowdy celebration in which flour, eggs, oranges, lemons, mud, sand-filled gloves along with dirty water, various liquids and glue were aimed at passersby. Used pots, pans, and other kitchen utensils were also thrown out of windows. Perhaps this was done to discard the old and the dirty before the Lenten fast.

A King of Chaos is elected, called King "Momo". He presides over the three-day festivities, which attract visitors from all over India and abroad.

Music All Over

Street Plays, songs, dances, and unrehearsed farces mocking the establishment are performed before an enthusiastic, responsive audience. In the three days of celebrations, cultural functions and competitions abound, and are judged by specially selected people. King Momo distributes the prizes to the winners.

The contestants wear colorful costumes and elaborate masks. In the fun-filled ambience, people smear color on each other, instead of the flour, eggs, fruit and water that used to be used in earlier times.

A Carnival for all

People from all over the world come and dress up in their favourite costumes and enjoy themself singing dancing and eating. There is fun filled in the streets of Goa where there is entertainment all over and just keeping in mind that we are all human beings and in the carnival to enjoy with each other
